Business as usual?
Halloween, Samhain and the day of the dead will all be occurring over the few weeks so is it any wonder that we are going to have an partial eclipse? This is the type of eclipse that we have all been dreaming of. After that intense Aries full moon and a fire trine that I refer to as a “hippy speedball,” I demand that you pass the “cray” poupon, because I have decided to eat this New Moon up instead of letting it chew me up with rapid changes.
With an intense stellium in Scorpio and Mars in Sagittarius almost at the last degree, the changes that we are pushing for now will echo for the next six months, so make sure you set your intentions with precision as this will be about the re-birth and re-integration of your ego.
Will your ego be planning for an overthrow of the shadow government?
Probably not. Funding in a fiat currency powered global economy has become quite tricky. But not to worry, we have all been chipping away at the oligarchy and plutocracy that seeks to rob everyone from sovereignty. Since Uranus went into Aries, we have all been slowly moving towards our highest and most authentic selves. Each solar/lunar eclipse cycle combined with the 18 year cycle of the moon’s lunar nodes, supports bringing our individual destiny inline with collective and divine purpose. So as tough as it may seem with Saturn finally moving out of Scorpio, consider all of the foundation you are creating so that you can transcend boundaries and rules responsibly and legally. So while Pluto continues to put many through the cray that is “long dark night” of the hero’s journey, one can only imagine the world that will emerge when Pluto enters Aquarius. Until then, be yourself and try to enjoy your blossoming process.
The fun that is the partial eclipse
Every 29 1/2 days we have a new moon. When we use the term “New Moon” we are only pointing out that it is at the beginning of its monthly cycle. When the moon is “new,” it rises and sets at the same time as the sun, so we cannot see it from the surface of the earth unless it is during an event that happens every six months called an eclipse.
In Astrolosophy, the 360º degree path of the sun, seen from the earth, is called the ecliptic. While there are more than 88 constellations in the sky, Tropical Astrology only discusses stars, planets and comets as they relate with the 12 zodiac signs on the ecliptic. When you look at the word ecliptic, you can see the root of the word eclipse. The Moon, like The Sun, has its own apparent path around the earth. Sometimes the moon is 0-5º above the plane of the earth, and sometimes the moon is 0-5º below the plane of the earth.
Why is this important?
When the sun’s path crosses with the moon’s path at 0º during a new moon, we have an eclipse.
Technically it is the Moon’s shadow, the “penumbra,” that is eclipsing the light from the sun. The path of the sun and the moon crossing during the new moon have to happen for any solar eclipse to take place on earth. (It’s the umbra when there is a TOTAL eclipse.)
SUN: 0º 25′ Scorpio
MOON: 0º 25′ Scorpio
Venus: 0º 03′ Scorpio
Saturn: 27º 57′ Scorpio
Pallas Athene: 1º 56′ Scorpio
Ceres: 28º 22′ Scorpio
The Sun’s diameter is roughly 400 times bigger than the moon, but since the moon is 400 times closer to the earth, it blocks out more than 90% of the sun’s surface. We can fit millions of moons inside of the relatively small local star knows as “the sun.”
New Moon Cycle
This is the beginning of our monthly biorhythm cycle. The Moon rises in conjunction with the sun, but within three and a half days, the moon pulls about 45 degrees ahead of the sun. This is a great time of renewal. A time to write down what you wish to accomplish in the month ahead. Since this New Moon Eclipse cycle starts off a cycle that will last six months, it is good to look at this as an alpha point for sewing the seeds of intention and gratitude that will serve you through the next equinox.
Solar Eclipse Concept in Astrology
A solar eclipse is considered a new beginning or, “seeding” because such events always occur during a new moon. Playfulness and networking take center stage along with love, self-reflection and hidden surprises.
Of the 12 signs in astrology, Scorpio definitely has a serious reputation. They are known for strong character traits ranging from seriousness through playful sensuality. But the common denominator is intensity.
Energy and action output define Mars while rejuvenation and rebirth define Pluto. The mythology associated with these two planets are now a big part of the Scorpio archetype. The active, bold and alphapersonality traits that
define the sacred masculine largely originates with Mars. Mars is overt, blunt and unapologetic about pioneering his way through the physical world. Pluto represents the more suppressed desires that we often keep hidden underneath the surface until its passions boil over, carrying us from the frying pan and into the fire.
Since Pluto is so far from the sun, this suggests that most of these things happen “off the radar” of other people’s awareness and is apparent only to us in the darkness.
The fire element is associated with Mars and ice (the water element) is associated with Pluto creating a complete range of character between the positive and negative poles of personality that are known as yin and yang. The end result of all of the non-negotiable struggle is a birth or rebirth of a more flexible and adaptable ego. An ego that will help you fly with possibilities instead of anchor you exclusively in the world of the traditional and familiar.
This semester we owe each of Scorpio’s personas a thank you. Each of the lower personas respond to our lower frequencies and channels just like chakras. So all of the “shadow work” over the past few years has helped us to become more intimate and accepting of our own flaws and imperfections so that we can transcend them with wisdom and skill. By extension this has helped us to be more mindful and compassionate when we witness the limitations of others. Now we will enter an era where we can identify the flaws of others and partner with them instead of exploiting their weakness or running the other direction to avoid being caught in the developmental “backdraft.”
We have moved from the lower physical chakras of the Scorpio past the bridge of the heart chakra. We are transiting the crown chakra on our way to the phoenix territory that allows us to accept ourselves and others for all of their complex light and darkness. More people are aware of their “black moon” or “Lilith” and now have the courage and HONESTY to do the work that goes with it. This is indicative that we will symbolically leave Scorpio’s home at the galactic center on a path of light and luminosity that leads to Antares, (Alpha Scorpii) the true heart of Scorpio. Its been a tough journey and I am sure that there will be more turbulence. But we know through cardinal crosses, retrogrades and the like, that we have the tools to handle it all. If we don’t have them all today, each coming challenge is only an opportunity to reach towards the top of the pyramid of self-actualization and consciousness. So congratulate yourselves and finish out this year on a high note.
